Gold Beach

Gold Beach was one of the two landing beaches in the British sector under Operation Overlord on D Day 6th June 1944.

Landing here was the 50th Infantry Division, led by the 231st and 69th Brigades in one of the most heavily defended areas by the Germans. The objectives of the 50th Infantry Division was to push inland, capturing the Caen / Cherbourg highway, capture Bayeux, Arromanches and link up with the American troops coming out of Omaha beach from the west.

Landing in King Sector was CSM Stan Hollis who went on to receive The Victoria Cross for his actions on D Day
