St Come du Mont

Sitting on the old Caen – Cherbourg Highway, St Come du Mont was occupied by the German Paratrooper Regiment - 6th Fallschirmjager Regiment .The German paratroopers occupied  the high ground overlooking drop zone D for the 101st Airborne.

 

Joseph Beyrle, I company, 506th Regiment landed in the church courtyard here on D Day morning.

 

The bitter fighting during the following days on the main road leading down through the marches has become known as Purple Heart Lane – The scene of Colonel Coles famous bayonet charge.

Dead Man’s Corner Museum

 

Dead Mans Corner Museum stands on the largely intact site of the old German aid station where the 101st Airborne Division encountered the 6th Fallschirmjager Regiment.  The museum is a chilling reminder of the battle for Carentan
