Sword Beach

Sword Beach was on the eastern flank of the D Day Landings under Operation Overlord.

The 3rd British Infantry Division and the 1st Special Services Brigade landed here. The objectives for the 3rd British Infantry Division were to secure the beach, neutralise the German defences and push inland to capture Caen.

The 1st Special Services Brigade objectives were to break out of Sword Beach capture Ouistreham and push onto Pegasus Bridge.  Cross the bridge and seize the high grand supporting the 6th Airborne Division.

Today you can visit the Musee du Mur de L’Atlantique, which was the German command post restored and re-equipped to its original condition.
