D-Day Tours / Battlefield Tours
As part of Operation Overlord on D-Day, Canadian 3rd Infantry division landed on Juno Beach which sat in the middle of the 2nd British Army D-Day Landing beaches; Gold Beach to the west, Sword Beach to the east running from Graye sur Mer to St Aubin.
The main objectives for the Canadian 3rd Infantry Division were to push inland and capture Carpiquet airport and to form a defensive line against the expected German counter attack. This planned push inland was to link up with British 3rd & 50th Infantry Divisions
1st Canadian Parachute Battalion landed on drop zone V as part of the 6th British Airborne Division to secure the drop zone and help seize key objectives.
